On June 18th, Mary McAllister and I flew to Malawi to begin a two week visit to one of the most fascinating countries in the world. While there, as part of a British Council Global Schools Partnership Reciprocal Grant programme, we visited Kapalamula and Nakoma Primary Schools and learned so much about this amazing county. This is our story......(please start at Day 1)

Hospitality
We can't begin to describe the hospitality we shared throughout our stay in Malawi. In particular, in both schools, we were treated to tea breaks and lunches provided for and made by the staff and their families. At a designated time, we would be asked to return to the Head Teacher's house to have our meal, be it lunch or a snack. Snack would often be peanut butter and bread or a biscuit and almost always a bottle of Fanta or Coke. The meals always followed the same format, sema or rice, veg and a little bit of protein, be it chicken, beef or even a boiled egg. These dishes would always be accompanied by a lovely tomato based sauce. In each community, either the Head Teacher's wife or the staff or a combination of them both, would prepare the meal and we suspect, share out the costs. In both communities we donated groceries to the organising committee to help off set these costs.
